Are you ready?

"Do you ever feel like there's not enough hours in the day to do whatever it is you need to do?  With all the life changes that will happen soon, do you feel that you're prepared?  The definition of preparation is, The action of making ready or something being done to get ready for an event.  Some of you are getting prepared for graduation, college, etc. Some are getting ready for life after high school that may not include college but entering the work force.  The time is now to prepare yourself for that. If it means finishing up scholarships letters, college applications or last credits of graduations.  If entering the workforce, you will need the necessary training in order to work.  Don't put off for tomorrow for what you can do today.  So take the time to do whatever it is that you need to do because your future is approaching fast.  What are your thoughts about preparation?"

Shouldn't we all be treated equal?

Since I have been out on maternity leave, I have watched more television then I usually do. I have paid attention to things that don't normally catch my attention because I'm not a person who likes drama. I have noticed that in the past month, more athletes have been having some serious issues and kind of getting away with a slap on the wrist. Take for example, Josh Brent who killed his teammate, Jerry Brown with intoxicated   manslaughter. Now I am a die heart Dallas Cowboy fan but I have a problem with him being able to come back and be on the sideline after killing his teammate. If it would have been one of us, they would have us under the jail at Alcatraz.  Just 7 days prior to that, Jovan Belcher kills his girlfriend and himself. Now if he would he wouldn't have committed suicide in front of his coach and general manager, would he have been slapped on the wrist until the season was over? What about the guy from Notre Dame, Manti Te'o and his "girlfriend hoax"? Do you think that this prank will keep him from being drafted to the NFL? I doubt it. Now how about the media giving Beyonce a hard time about lip syncing the National Anthem. Many popular singers has lip sync a lot of their songs, so why are they give her so much problem. If you think about, we all are human and that we all should be treated equal. Just because we don't make  millions of dollars and live in a $4.5 million home, doesn't mean that we shouldn't be treated like the others. What your status is shouldn't determine  how you are a treated. A crime is a crime, no matter how big or small and no matter who committed it. Let's start treating everyone the same, whether they are the President of the US or someone hanging out at 5 Points.

Do you really pay attention?

Ever heard the phrase, "If it was a snake it would have bit you." because something was sitting right in front of you but you just didn't pay it any attention or you ignored it? I once heard a retired teacher say that he gave a student a book to take home and gave him an assignment to do in the book. Because the student didn't pay attention to the teacher, the student missed out on $100 bill that was placed on the page the student was told to do with the student's name on it. Some times we miss out on good things because we don't pay attention to the simple things. Some things can be presenting to us plain as the nose on our face and we still miss it. What is your view on this? Do we pay attention to what we ONLY want to see or are we just that busy that we miss out on the "good things" and not see it until its too late. Comment back with your thoughts.

What are your plans after High School?

Everyone always asking, "what are you going to do when you graduate high school?" Do you really know what you going to do? Are planning on going off to college? Maybe join the military. How about a trade school or go straight to work? Whatever you plan on doing, it's time to make your decisions now. If you are a senior, you are a little bit late if you have no plans but better late then never. This class will help you make a decision of what you want to do after high school and if it's college; how to survive college. Take time out to check out the wiki and get some ideas of what you want to do after graduation. See you soon!

Welcome to A Brand New World

Hello to you all and Welcome to online learning! My apologies for not being here at the beginning of the semester but a Mother's duties has to come first and on top of that I'm sick. I am looking forward to a great year with you. Even though I am in the room with you, we will communicate mostly through the computer. We will use Blogger, GTalk, Wiki, and email. You will need to have a Gmail email address to communicate with me. This class is also mixed with many other classes. AP Government and AP English and more. We must be considered to each other and work together. Some things you need to know:

·         My emails are  allena@nw.halifax.k12.nc.us  aprildanyell@gmail.com
·         My wiki is http://adallen.pbworks.com
·         When submitting work, make sure you send it to yourself as well as to me. That will be proof that you did it.
·         You will need a Gmail email address. We can use that to communicate through Google Talk. Email me TODAY from your Gmail.  It counts for a grade.
·         My phone number is 252-586-7916(Classroom)
·         You can access the website from anywhere, so no excuses about not doing your work.
·         I’m very easy to get along with, but can get very mean and hateful if pushed.
·         I will work with you as long I see you trying.
·         Don’t be afraid to ask question. I’m here to help.
·         Technology is a beautiful thing. Be prepared for mishaps. It can be there one second and gone the next.
·         When saving work, do not save it to the computer. It’s best to email it to yourself as an attachment or save it to a flash drive. (If you do not know how to do it, let me know and I will be glad to show you.)
·         This is not a hang out for your friends; so do not be inviting them to stop by like you are at home.
·         Speak when walking through the door. I didn't sleep with you last night and didn't get up with you this morning; therefore “Good Morning”, “Good Afternoon”, “Hello”, or “Hi Everybody” will be expected.
·         You will take responsibility for ALL your actions. You are responsible for your work being turned in on time and letting me know if you run into some problems. I don’t know if you don’t tell.
·         CHECK YOUR COURSE EVERYDAY!  You are responsible for your due dates.
·         COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY!
·         Please clean up behind yourself!
·         I dismiss class! NOT THE BELL!

A Note from the Teacher:
This is a new year and a lot of things have changed. Be the best that you can be and put your best foot forward. Start the year out right and do what you are suppose to do and be where you are supposed to be at all times. No Excuses for why you didn't do anything. “Excuses are tools of incompetence which build monuments of nothingness. Those who specialize in this seldom accomplish anything.”  Keep high expectation for yourself and you will live up to the expectations that I have for you. “Aim for the moon! For if you miss you will land among the stars!”
